It should come as no surprise that you should take choosing the colors on the outside of your house very seriously. The wrong shade on your exterior walls or siding can take your home from the best looking house on the block all the way down to the worst looking! But what if you’re not so good at design? What if you don’t much have an eye for color? What should you do then? Luckily, we’ve put together this short guide on how to choose the right color for your siding.
Read on to ensure you don’t put a step wrong when you’re building or renovation your home…
Choose the color based on your surroundings
Look around you’re the outside of your house. Look carefully! Surrounding your home you will have a garden – or the plan of a garden if you’re only just building, you’ll have your neighbors yards and homes, and you’ll have the greater street view and surrounds.
Each neighborhood is different, with different colors. Look at the greens in the gardens. Check out the colors of your neighbors homes, their fences, their garages. You can pick out either bold colors from the surrounding accents, or choose to use one of the accent colors for your siding. Choosing this way it is hard to go wrong!
Think about how often you like to clean
Do you clean often? Either have cleaners through or do it yourself? Do you garden often? Does someone come in to tidy your yard? While the majority of siding is composed of dirt and dust resistant material, it can make a difference what color your siding is when it comes to how dirty it can look!
Obviously, lighter colored siding, such as light cream will show more dirt and dust, than say a darker green color. If you are quite sure that you’ll hardly ever clean the outer of your house you might like to choose a darker color for your siding to make sure that it always looks good – even when dirty.
Consult with a painting expert about the most popular colors
If you’d like to see what everyone else is going for, your best bet to find out the in demand colors of the moment would be to make a visit to a painting expert. They will be able to show you the types of colors that are very in fashion for the season and make suggestions about which color to pick for the siding of your home.
Consider texture, too
Siding can be different textures too, for instance a rougher texture can make your siding appear darker. Remember to take this into account when you are picking out your color.
